General Information about the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil
The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is a global, multi-stakeholder initiative on sustainable palm oil. Members of RSPO, and participants in its activities come from many different backgrounds, including plantation companies, processors and traders, consumer goods manufacturers and retailers of palm oil products, financial institutions, environmental NGOs and social NGOs, from many countries that produce or use palm oil. The RSPO vision is to “transform the markets by making sustainable palm oil the norm".

RSPO has two certification systems, to achieve these goals:
RSPO Principles & Criteria (P&C)
This set of rules is audited at farm level and includes principles, criteria, indicators and guidelines for palm oil producers that implement sustainable production according to RSPO. For details, visit
agroVet was approved for P&C until the end of 2013 and works now exclusively with individual cooperation projects and partners in Asia.
RSPO Supply Chain Certification Standard (SCCS)
Downstream supply chain actors (for example, refineries, food and cosmetics industries, detergents) are audited and certified against the SCCS. Certificates are valid for 5 years, with annual surveillance audits.
This system is called SCCS or supply chain certification system.
Two documents are most relevant for SCCS certification:
Supple Chain Certification Standard & Rules on Market Communications and Claims

The oil palm provides two raw materials at farm level (palm oil and palm kernel oil).
Sustainability and traceability for all ingredients of the oil palm is ensured thru a closed certification from farm level (P&C), up to the final consumer product (SCCS).
The need for retailers and manufacturers of final consumer products is becoming increasingly important to demonstrate the social and environmental impacts of specific raw materials through independent certifications.
RSPO offers its members an accredited and credible system for the traceability of sustainably produced raw materials and consumer products.
Examples of products with the RSPO trademark are presented on the RSPO website: https://www.rspo.org/members/trademark
